Rajasthan Teacher Eligibility Test (RTET)

The Rajasthan Teacher Eligibility Test (RTET), also known as the Rajasthan Eligibility Examination for Teachers (REET), is an essential examination for those aspiring to become teachers in the state of Rajasthan. It is conducted annually by the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education and consists of two stages:

  1. Stage I: For candidates who wish to teach primary classes (Class I to V).
  2. Stage II: For candidates who wish to teach upper primary classes (Class VI to VIII).

Candidates have the option to appear for either Paper I (for Stage I), Paper II (for Stage II), or both. To be eligible, candidates must meet the cut-off marks and other criteria specified on the official website. This examination is mandatory for anyone aiming to teach in primary and upper primary schools in Rajasthan.

According to the statistics of the REET exam in 2023, a total of 3,20,014 candidates appeared in the Level 1 exam for which 2,03,609 qualified for the exam. On the other hand, a total of 11,55,904 appeared for the Level 2 exam and 6,03,228 qualified for the REET exam.

The Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education has advertised 48,000 openings for third-grade teachers in the state’s government institutions. Individuals who have qualified for the REET exam are eligible to apply for these positions.

The REET exams are conducted offline and are divided into two levels:

  1. Level-1: For teaching primary classes (Class 1 to 5)
  2. Level-2: For teaching upper primary classes (Class 6 to 8)

RTET/REET Eligibility 2024

Before taking the examination, it is crucial to understand the precise eligibility requirements. The eligibility criteria for Primary Teachers (Class 1 to 5) and Upper Primary Teachers (Class 6 to 8) vary.

Age Limit

  • Minimum Age: 18 years
  • Maximum Age: 40 years (General), with relaxation for other categories as follows:
    • SC/ST/OBC: Relaxation of 10 years
    • Male EWS: Relaxation of 5 years

Educational Qualifications for RTET

For Primary Teacher (Class 1 to 5):

  1. Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a 2-year Elementary Education Diploma (D. El. Ed.).
  2. Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a 2-year Elementary Education Diploma (D. El. Ed.), as per 2002 regulations.
  3. Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B. El. Ed.).
  4. Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Special Education.

For Upper Primary Teacher (Class 6 to 8):

  1. Graduation and passed or appearing in the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D. El. Ed.).
  2. Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in a 1-year Bachelor of Education (B. Ed.).
  3. Graduation with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in a 1-year Bachelor of Education (B. Ed.) as per NCTE regulations.
  4. Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B. El. Ed.) or B.A./B.Sc. Ed.
  5. Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in a 1-year B. Ed. (Special Education).

Note: Candidates fulfilling specific criteria will be appointed for General Posts, while others will be appointed as Teachers for Special Education.
